European football's governing body has initiated a disciplinary case against Chelsea's Pedro Neto following an incident where he shoved a young stadium attendant during a Champions League match against Paris St‑Germain.
The 26-year-old, Neto, shoved the attendant in stoppage time of Wednesday's knockout stage fixture at Parc des Princes – where Chelsea lost heavy defeat – which caused the boy to fall off his seat.
It sparked a confrontation between both sets of players.
Officials stated proceedings have been instigated against the player on grounds of "unsporting behaviour" as per the official rules.
"The relevant committees will take a decision regarding this matter in due course," European football's governing body stated.
Neto expressed regret over his actions and blamed getting swept up "by the heat of the moment" when he sought to get back the match ball.
"I'm not like this. It happened in the passion of the game and I want to apologise. My shirt was given to him. I feel terrible about it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto explained to the media.
"I have limited French, so teammate Vitinha stepped in and said to him I was not like this.
"Finally he saw the funny side and I presented him with my jersey and said sorry repeatedly. He realized what had happened and was satisfied with how it was resolved."
The London club welcome Paris St-Germain next Tuesday in the second leg, following a match against Newcastle to Stamford Bridge this weekend in the Premier League.
