Triple award winner Jokic endures a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental contact with team-mate Jones.
Jones landed on the foot of the big man, and he immediately went down to the court grabbing his leg.
The star, that is leading the NBA season in boards and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before incurring the problem.
He will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the seriousness of the problem.
"Instantly, he realized he was hurt," commented Denver coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone that suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, most notably somebody as special as him. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I am more worried primarily about him as a person and the frustration of going through an event of that nature."
