The Renowned Musician Encourages Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The track blends a fusion of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the initiative have stated that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the territory was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
