The Reform UK leader Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
Reacting to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
