The former Liverpool manager states a return to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach any other side in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Impossible.”
