The older brother of the Southport attacker testified his family "could not manage" of their offspring and he worried his younger sibling would kill a member of their relatives, a hearing has learned.

Axel Rudakubana, aged 17 at the time, fatally attacked three kids at a celebrity-themed dance workshop on that date.

The Southport Inquiry, held at a civic building, was told the family member Dion Rudakubana told a acquaintance there was a danger of his brother "taking action that could kill."

The investigation was told he messaged his friend over the Discord messaging app: "The fights are frightening because of the risk of someone dying."

The sibling testified his relative was similar to the psychopathic killer in the film No Country For Old Men.

Rising Hostility

The hearing heard Dion was found to have a neuromuscular disorder at the age of 12 which caused him using a wheelchair and his parents helping him more.

When asked by Richard Boyle, counsel to the inquiry, if that changed his relationship he said: "Conflict arose that emerged."

He agreed his brother appeared to resent this change.

He revealed to the inquiry that after the family relocated from the Welsh capital to Southport his relative's behavior deteriorated and he would have "aggressive episodes."

The hearing heard Dion became "increasingly wary" of his sibling, who would strike him often.

He stated: "I needed to be careful if I did speak to him because every argument could become an confrontation."

'Genuine concerns'

The brother testified his brother became significantly more violent after he was expelled from Range High School in Formby, Merseyside, in that period.

The sibling departed for higher education in 2022 and the two communicated rarely "as he was unaccustomed to having me around."

Proceedings was made aware of a note the brother wrote to a contact on the service in which he stated his sibling was angered by him having conversations after dark because of the limited soundproofing in their residence.

He also told his friend there was a risk of "him doing something deadly."

He stated: "Arguments are scary because of the danger of someone dying."

Mr Boyle questioned: "You held real worries that your brother would fatally harm a person of your relatives?"

He responded: "In case matters intensified to that level."

The lawyer inquired how his mother and father reacted to the perpetrator's aggression.

"It was pointless to attempt to discipline him," he stated. "Also, there was a heavy risk in proceeding that way.

"We said there was a overall danger to well-being in general conversation, if you attempt to challenge him... it would not end well."

When questioned if his family had failed to manage of his sibling, he concurred.

Questioned regarding his sibling being similar to a persona from the movie the thriller, he stated: "It was said that character's intended as a psychopath and that's why I used the word there."

Dion testified the last interaction he had with his brother was in the warmer months of that year.

He acknowledged that their mother and father told the perpetrator to say goodbye to him as he was leaving to see his friends and his relative hurled an object at him but the exit was secured before it struck.

Proceedings ongoing.
