President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt issuing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to visit his relatives.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had bravery,” he addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
