Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
