Los Angeles experienced citywide festivities after the Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-game World Series title. Fans across the globe joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the first time in 25 years that a team has secured consecutive championships.
Celebration Parade Attracts Massive Crowds
Los Angeles area celebrations featured a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage show countless of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the championship trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the players walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue classic car around the field.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Player Reactions
Festivities began prior to the parade, with supporters setting off fireworks in the roads of the city center on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, named the MVP of the championship, commented directly about the win.
“We refuse to lose,” he said. “I love the Dodgers. This city means everything to me.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
In contrast, Mark Walter was met with a cooler welcome at the rally. Recordings from the gathering seem to depict him taking the stage to a combination of applause and jeers, with jeers punctuating his address.
The World Series served as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated quarter-million people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed equal or greater support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
