Citizens have come together throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also promised to "achieve all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed official memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of people who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A high-ranking representative familiar with the talks indicated that an late session of negotiations started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, because of differences over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have still not achieve any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are striving to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the hostages still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance deliveries
  • Future administration of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square earlier, young Hagar - whose brother endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - told: "No place appears as home anymore and until all the hostages are released not a single person will be secure."

"When we see all home once more, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence recover," she concluded.

Outside the leader's home in the capital, people assembled to show their solidarity for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty remain in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be living.

Protester one woman explained: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be secure."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of the population want the war to conclude in as payment for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of the music event, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, bombardments were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"Once the evening comes, the fear arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, described.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my little child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we check the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the fighting will resume to us."

Health Crisis

The healthcare center in the urban area reported it had received the corpses of half dozen people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area reported additional dead people had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south, medical staff said.
