He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

Born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, in 1931, Burton became one of the industry’s most admired broadcasters, bringing the joy of classical music to the general public.
In the 1960s and 70s, he was the BBC's head of music and arts and was honoured with accolades for seminal programmes like The Golden Ring.
1978 saw him introduce the Young Musician of the Year, a contest instrumental in identifying future stars including violinist Nicola Benedetti.
