Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown With the Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first World Series following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.
Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for our team, our city, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player in the world that I'd prefer in that situation besides Springer with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Wilson said "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
