American Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities
As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a lethal strike on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”
Background and Prior Actions
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military presence.
Only on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Actions Amid Scrutiny
The administration has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a top official appeared to confirm a broader political aim. In a recent interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
